As a blogger and avid traveler, Ammon Cunningham enjoys writing about various travel destinations, including places to visit in Utah as well as beyond. Found in Draper, Utah, Loveland Living Planet Aquarium is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring people to explore, discover and learn about Earth’s diverse ecosystems. With 450 species and more than 2,400 animals at the site, the public aquarium welcomes more than 1 million visitors each year to see its numerous exhibits.
Loveland Living Planet Aquarium has five primary attractions for guests -- Journey to South America, Expedition Asia, Ocean Explorer, Antarctic Adventure and, sharing the local region, Discover Utah. This 501(c)3 aquarium was born from a Utah native and marine biology graduate’s idea and dream, opening in March 2014. Significant fundraising and educational funding grants allowed the idea -- born in 1998 -- to become a project then a realistic goal and open site in the Draper area. Approximately 30,000 memberships help sustain the site in addition to annual visits. This allows for extensive educational outreach, welcoming Utah students to explore and learn every year in conjunction with school programs.
